Kerachers Restaurant

168 South Street, Perth, PH2 8NY

Kerachers has now established itself as one of Perthshire's leading restaurants; since its opening in May 1999 it has steadily gained in reputation, mainly owing to the relaxed style of the Restaurant, the interesting and innovative menus delivering quality dishes and of course the marvellous fresh fish supplied by the Keracher family. Owners Pamela and Peter Keracher run the front of house and kitchen respectively so they are personally on hand to ensure a consistently excellent dining experience; the restaurant has a total of fifty six seats and is light and spacious, thus ensuring comfort for all their diners. The menu relies heavily on the excellent Scottish produce, particularly the fish and seafood, so their starters might include a Finnan haddock pastry case lined with leeks and smoked bacon served with cream leek sauce and topped with mature cheddar or Skye scallops lightly seared served on asparagus with a warm tomato and herb dressing.

Similarly with the main courses, offering medallions of monkfish fillet wrapped in Parma ham set on vegetable flavoured couscous with a sun dried tomato dressing, or fillet of North Sea halibut set on fondant potato and winter vegetables garnished with Skye Scallops with a fresh basil and pine nut dressing; carnivores are by no means neglected either with a loin of Perthshire Lamb set on puy lentils with baby roast potatoes and honey glazed carrots with a pea and mint dressing or fillet of prime Aberdeen Angus beef, cooked to order, set on a mustard mash with a pepper cream sauce garnished with wild mushrooms.

If you have any room left then their puddings should finish you off completely, try their sticky toffee pudding, which is superbly rich, naturally it is homemade, served with a warm toffee sauce and luxury ice cream or a traditional rhubarb rumble with a hint of cinnamon served with double cream.

Their fixed price menus at lunchtime and dinner during the week, pre theatre only on a Saturday, offer exceptional value for money, though naturally a la carte comes out a bit higher.

REVIEWS OF Kerachers Restaurant

Dundee foodie (23 October 2009)

I am a regular diner at Kerachers Restaurant and I can only say that if seafood is your passion then this is the restaurant for you and in saying that my partner always has the local fillet of beef when at Kerachers. The restaurant is very clean and simple with glass tables and white leather chairs. It is on the first floor so it’s not accessible for wheelchairs. However, the menu is varied and well affordable as it is a set price and with no supplements for beef, etc. Try the seafood chowder or the smoked haddock pastry case, which is their signature dish I believe. Main courses are sole, halibut, sea bass and monkfish with beef and corn fed chicken. There is a nice selection of desserts. £28.50 for 3 courses is very good value for this menu. Kerachers is well worth a visit next time you are in Perth. Probably in the top 5 restaurants in Perth.

My wife and I visited this restaurant in January while in Perth. It is on the first floor so we were not sure what to expect, however walking into the restaurant we could tell right away that it was going to be a special evening. The decor is minimal with lovely glass tables and elegant leather chairs. It had candles twinkling on the tables and very subtle lighting. The staff were very helpful but more importantly, knowledgeable.

I started with pan seared scallops which were very fine specimens indeed and cooked to perfection. Mary had the smoked haddock pastry case with cream leek sauce. She was very happy with her choice.

Mary stayed with fish for her main and had halibut and scallops while I opted for pan seared breast of pheasant set on Savoy cabbage - a great combination of flavours with the pheasant moist and flavoursome. The desserts were a chocolate cup and a drambuie and honey brûlée, both were first class. It is a lovely restaurant and well worth a visit if you are in Perth.
