Khao San Thai

108 Chepstow Road, London, W2 5QS

Khao San literally translates as raw rice in Thai; now that should evoke enough curiosity to merit a visit to this Chepstow Road restaurant. First off, you'd notice their eye-catching pink frontage, then step inside to find a bright dining area filled Buddha statuettes and various other paraphernalia; surely the setting can hardly get more authentic and exciting that this. Aharn wang jaturamitr makes an interesting starter for two to share, so keep an eye open for spring rolls, sesame toast, prawns in blanket, crispy wanton, chicken satay and crab claws. The kitchen does well offering some traditional fare like gaeng som goong sod kai cha oom, orange curry served with king prawns and Thai spinach omelette, and does even better with a spicy and sour salad mixed with salted crab.

Here's an exciting piece of trivia that Khao San Thai would like to share - there are more than ten types of chillies used in Thai cooking, all vary in size and colour, but are used for flavouring and decoration.
