In the unlikely purlieus of a former manse in Maryhill can be found one of Glasgow's better Indian restaurants, much loved by politicians of all denominations, where the spirit of the Raj from the 1920's is perpetuated and greatly revered.

Quite apart from the usual range of Indian dishes, all served with care and élan, it is possible to savour the cooking style of Dum Pukht. Now I must come clean and admit that did not mean much to me until a little research revealed it to be a form of cooking peculiar to the Mughal Emperors, a number of whom seem to have been pretty gregarious characters - perhaps that accounts for the plethora of politicians. A typical dish is Murgh Wajib Ali, which turns out to be chicken with pomegranate. They do a wonderful buffet at under a tenner - just - and the overall style is slightly wacky in the nicest possible way. You'll enjoy it.
