Kinghams Restaurant Description
This 17th century cottage is everything that you would expect it to be, warm and cosy with a dash of tranquillity amid the flower lined bowers. Opened in 1993, Kinghams Restaurant features classical British cuisine with an effervescent modern touch. Service is friendly and attentive and there's always a focus towards artistic presentation. Inside, the fireplace and oak beams bring a homey atmosphere, while the al fresco dining area is gloriously summery.
Starters from their à la carte could typically be calves liver and bacon terrine with a caramelized onion and prune tart, followed with wild mushroom and Welsh rarebit lasagne on a tomato butter sauce. Fish is a speciality and you might want to try the roasted monkfish tail on saffron mash glazed with a tomato and basil hollandaise. The list of delectable desserts includes hot almond macaroon on a chocolate ganache torte. The concise wine list offers a number of choices spread across the new and old world.

I had visited on Saturday at a party of twenty for lunch. The set lunch menu and house wines were truly excellent as was the professional and friendly service. I have been there several times in the last twelve months and have never been disappointed. Good value for money.

Went here last Tuesday evening - 12/04/05 - for a special occasion - and what a wonderful evening!! Kir Royale (£7 ea) started the evening off on an excellent note. I opted for the 'set menu' (available Tues to Thurs evening) which was fantastic value at £15.95. My partner opted for the starter of king prawns (daily special) and the sirloin (a touch tough!) though the sauce was excellent. Wine list was very good - with house wines starting at £11.95. Our total bill for 2 courses for both of us along with the Kir Royales came to £66 which was excellent value. Setting was very romantic and quiet - probably due to the fact it was mid-week!
