This splendid black and white half-timbered pub dates from fourteen-hundred-eleven. Legend has it that King Charles dropped in for a quick one after his rapid exit from the Battle of Worcester in sixteen-hundred-fifty-one. Good pub food is the order of the day now and you might park your sword before embarking on some seared fresh tuna 'Benedict'. A general easing of the tunic and loosening of the laces would be needed to cope with the best end of English lamb covered with a nice crisp crust. A quick look around outside, a check on the sentries and you could just make room for some rich chocolate and rum pots abetted by a generous dollop of clotted cream. My partner and I visited the Kings last weekend. We have a wonderful meal in delightful surroundings. The food was cooked to perfection and the chef was more than willing to adapt the dishes to suit my partner's very picky tastes. The prices were reasonable considering the obvious high standards of the ingredients - the dessert was my favourite, it looked and tasted amazing. I can't wait to make a return visit very soon.
