King's Head

This is a stylish 15th century village inn, with open fires & timbered ceilings, which claims to be where Shakespeare's parents were married. It is one mile from Mary Arden's House and five miles from Stratford.

The menu sports rustic dishes drawing its inspiration from around the world, while proclaiming "the famous Aston Cantlow Duck Suppers are a must." All the food is freshly prepared for a menu that changes every three months. Real ales are available on hand pump, and there is an impressive wine list.

Starters may include oak smoked salmon layered with blinis, crème fraiche & caviar dressing (£6.50); ham hock, potato & sun blushed tomato terrine with haricot vert (£6.25); smoked chicken Caesar salad (£5.95); sautéed tiger prawns, chorizo & fettuccini with lemon & rosemary (£6.95).

Main courses include the Kings Head duck supper with gratin potatoes, caraway cabbage & shallot jam (£14.25); prawn & lemon grass cakes with basil mayonnaise (£9.75); 5 hour lamb on pumpkin & thyme mash, rosemary sauce (£12.95); butternut squash ravioli, wilted rocket, parmesan & crème fraiche (£9.95).

Desserts include char-grilled banana, rum & raisin ice cream & chocolate sauce.
