Kitchen W8
11-13 Abingdon Road, London, W8 6AH
The place is a real culinary treasure. Within the pleasing confines of four beautifully decorated rooms is offered an imaginative and wholly satisfying menu that embraces some of the more intellectually conceived aspects of Modern British cuisine. Real respect for ingredients and their integration takes ample precedence over any desire for flashy presentation or self-expression, but then, as the chef worked for Philip Howard at The Square, with two Michelin stars, for some two and a half years, the quality and originality should not surprise anyone, and the restaurant is the result of a collaboration between Philip Howard and Rebecca Mascarenhas, owner of Sonny's in Barnes. Expect to find amongst the starters foie gras mousse with raisin purée and cheese straws, or potted rabbit and pork with bay leaf jelly and sourdough toast. The place is a real culinary treasure. Expect to find amongst the starters foie gras mousse with raisin purée and cheese straws, or potted rabbit and pork with bay leaf jelly and sourdough toast. Main courses might run to fillet of Cornish mullet with a ragoût of leeks, oysters and mussels, and hand-rolled pappardelle with a rich game sauce, and to finish it could be a crème fraîche tart with lemon curd ice cream. Kitchen W8 may well turn out to be the sort of place that, once found, tends to remain on the 'for self only' list.

REVIEWS OF Kitchen W8
Michele (2 November 2009)
We’re back from our now home in Paris for a weekend shopping in London. No particular plan except to make the most of a dull and damp Sunday and Kitchen W8, a new restaurant just off Kensington High Street looked inviting - and we were hungry. Perfectly cooked roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, delicious butternut mash, roast potatoes with that right balance of crisp and fluffy, oh my God, we were in heaven. Our ten year old son was warmly welcomed and happily tucked in an entrée of rabbit and pork terrine, followed by a generous slice of beef. Living in Paris has broadened his palate and he announced he wanted this to be our London restaurant. No argument from us. At £25 for lunch there is no way we can get this quality at home. Yes, Paris has some stellar restaurants but for this quality you'd pay three times more. Bon appetit! We'll be back.
