Konstam at the Prince Albert Description

Konstam at Prince Albert in the King's Cross area of London is the brainchild of chef/owner Oliver Rowe. A complete Londoner, Oliver has strong family ties in the King's Cross area though he has worked as a chef in Italy, Greece and France.

The restaurant was the central feature of BBC2's ten part series The Urban Chef and focussed on Oliver's search to bring locally sourced, seasonal food from all around Greater London to the restaurant. Even today, Oliver and his team source 85% of their ingredients from the area covered by the London Underground, and this compels them to extend themselves and use a creative approach.

The menu offers British, Northern and Central European cuisine. Some highlights are pork rillette with courgette pickle and toast, charcoal grilled Mersea squid with caraway and fennel seed dressing and pan roast pheasant with roast vegetables and mushroom, bacon and thyme sauce and a signature dessert, Konstam castle cake with blackcurrant jam and lavender Chantilly.

Your Reviews of Konstam at the Prince Albert

Stephen Emms (25 January 2008)

Konstam at The Prince Albert, has an attractive interior and the chef/owner, Oliver Rowe, can boast that 85% of his menu is locally-sourced, seasonal food from around Greater London. The exposed kitchen, complete with swinging frying pans makes a great centrepiece even if the conversation slows down, and the crowd and service is laidback. The menu changes every day, but within 25 minutes they produce such delicacies as Syon Park trout or grilled pigeon breast with elderberry sauce and buttered beetroot. We particularly loved the slow roast shoulder of lamb and velvety broccoli puree with chunky braised chard. They also have a good collection of expensive and reasonable wines and if you’re feeling brave, try a Somerset cider brandy.

Andrea - Islington (10 July 2006)

Had the delight of eating breakfast here one sunny Sunday in June. I have to say that this is one of the best breakfasts I have eaten the food quality was amazing. It was totally let down by the service or lack of it though. We had to wait 10 mins to have our order taken and after asking three times after waiting over 20 mins for water and two cold drinks the drinks finally arrived. The staff are pleasant though working a little faster might help customers to keep returning. I am a local resident and would use Konstam more if I could guarantee that it would not take over 1 hour just to get water, two cold drinks and a 1 course breakfast of no complexity. I will try again soon.
