Kookaburras - Forfar
Arbroath Road, Forfar, DD8 2RY
Darren and Susan run a friendly restaurant called Kookaburras that caters especially to families and is just two miles from Forfar. Open six days a week, the eatery serves everything from morning coffee and lunches to high teas and evening meals. Home baked delicacies are a highlight at Kookaburras. Run from a sprawling ranch like home, guests have the choice of sitting indoors or dining outside. While sipping tea outdoors, do not be surprised to see a wallaby or an ostrich like bird called the rhea wandering around the garden. With luck, you could even catch a glimpse of the emus. These friendly creatures are the family's pets and are tame enough to allow guests to feed them. If the relaxed ambience makes you feel at ease, the simple and lovingly prepared food ensures you feel at home.Darren and Susan run a friendly restaurant called Kookaburras that caters especially to families and is just two miles from Forfar. If the relaxed ambience makes you feel at ease, the simple and lovingly prepared food ensures you feel at home. Kangaroo and haggis Wellington, chicken sambal salad, grilled salmon on olive mash are all popular, while the chef selects passion fruit and kiwi Pavlova as his favourite. You could enjoy an assortment of salads, seafood, hot roasts and delicious desserts available on their special Sunday buffet, from noon until 3 pm.
A gift shop in the premises offers wood and stone carvings, aboriginal arts and crafts, jewellery, Australian prints and crafts from Indonesia, Scotland, Mexico and Africa, allowing guests to pick up souvenirs.
In case you are wondering why the restaurant has a strong Australian slant, Darren is from Australia, and takes great pride in offering a range of Australian beers like VB and Toohey's as well as some fine wines to make dining at Kookaburras a memorable experience.

REVIEWS OF Kookaburras - Forfar
Stewart (8 June 2011)
Four of us went here last Friday. We will definitely return - the food was very tasty, staff friendly and helpful. We would recommend.
Irene Pennycook (17 December 2008)
Further to my earlier review, scrub it! I have been twice since then and the place was freezing. The food took ages to arrive and there were complaints from all the adjoining tables. My husband's nachos were swimming in grease, and the food was not as good as it had previously been. I guess we just hit it on a good day when we went the first time around. After the awful second time we decided they might have just been having an off day, and went again with friends. It is so embarrassing when you rave about a place to people and then it turns into a disappointment. Ah well.
