Kwizeen Restaurant
47-49 King Street, Blackpool, FY1 3EJ
In the land of the party conference and the home of the kiss-me-kwik hat one is hardly surprised to come across a restaurant called Kwizeen except that - wait a bit - the food and, yes, everything about the place is good. When you read that Alice Thomson of the Daily Telegraph was unashamedly planning a return visit to demolish another of their seafood platters you know that you have indeed stumbled across a real find. Not only is the food as challenging as the name and the décor, it is incredibly enjoyable and remarkably fairly priced. Take for instance venison in chocolate and chilli sauce or, if you'd rather not take it, perhaps the fillet of sea-bass with a ginger butter sauce? Morecambe Bay shrimps tend to come with garlic and served warm in a crisp Parmesan cheese basket. In the land of the party conference and the home of the kiss-me-kwik hat one is hardly surprised to come across a restaurant called Kwizeen except that - wait a bit - the food and, yes, everything about the place is good. Helpings are designed for men - and women - with hearty political or outdoor appetites. You will not fade away, rest assured.
Desserts are slightly less surreal than some other dishes. A two-course set lunch for £8.50 sounds amazing value, but it's true I assure you. A nifty wine list, perhaps a touch short on numbers but strong on quality will further make your day, nor are the house Californians to be sniffed at from £10. At last Blackpool has a reliable quality restaurant, unstuffy and fun, which fills a slot long vacant.

REVIEWS OF Kwizeen Restaurant
John Bagguley (30 June 2008)
My wife and I stumbled on this restaurant some years ago and have gone there every year since on our annual trip to Blackpool. It makes our weekend to be able to eat there. We have come to know the members of staff who make us very welcome. The food is a delight, and every year they appear to get more inventive. If there is a better restaurant in the North West I don't know where.
Tim Griggs (23 January 2007)
After many months of visiting Blackpool on business, it was an absolute joy to stumble across Kwizeen. In short, the meal my colleague and I had was exceptional, by any standards. But when you consider the cost - £57 for two, 3 courses each, plus wine - it is truly remarkable. The menu is inventive and expertly executed. The salt-marsh lamb was a triumph, and the pheasant with liquorice sauce exceptional. My dessert of caramel and balsamic cheesecake was one of the finest desserts I've had. The service was also excellent, with explanations offered with pleasure. I would not hesitate to recommend Kwizeen. Easily the finest place to eat within a 10 mile radius. I will definitely be going back.
