La Fontana

The name literally translates to 'the fountain' and the place not just helps in creating that special relaxing atmosphere, but also brings to life the ambitious endeavours of the proprietor, head waiter and head chef, who have between them many years of experience in the hospitality trade. The interior is designed to mimic a lively Italian courtyard with a convivial atmosphere, and the abundance of fun, food and laughter make for an ideal evening out on Clifton Street.

Nibble on deliciously crunchy calamari rings with lemon and tartare sauce for dipping, or homemade pâté cooked with brandy and cream. Then an appetising selection of pizza and pasta could follow or head straight to try main courses of slow roasted lamb shank served in a rich red wine, rosemary and mint sauce, or scampi provençale. Finish with an inspiring brûlée al limonea, a centre of cool lemon sorbet surrounded by a creamy lemon filling topped with caramelised Demerara sugar and a lemon twist.
