La Kera
Chocolate Factory 2, 4 Coburg Road, Wood Green, London, N22 6UJ
The South Indian state of Kerala is known for its beauty, rich spices and ancient Ayurvedic traditions. Phoenician, Syrian, Greek, Arab, Roman, Chinese and in the first century, Christian and Jewish settlers who visited the coast have influenced the state's cuisine. Thousands of miles away in Wood Green, contemporary La Kera uses fresh, locally sourced ingredients to give customers an opportunity to sample the flavours of this colourful land. Vegetarians find dishes of thoran, chopped seasonal vegetables stir fried with onion, fresh coconut and mustard seeds, to please them. The lunchtime menu focuses on light choices such as uthappam pancakes, or chilli paneer, cottage cheese in a tomato and chilli sauce, served with traditional porotta bread. The South Indian state of Kerala is known for its beauty, rich spices and ancient Ayurvedic traditions. Dinner is more elaborate, with specials such as chemmeen green mango curry of prawns cooked in coconut sauce with curry leaves, as well as flavoursome dosa pancakes and biryanis. Exciting Indian desserts and good wines play their part well in complementing La Kera's spicy food

REVIEWS OF La Kera
Lydia Singer (5 July 2008)
I'm surprised that most people don't know about La Kera. Their food surpasses any other Indian restaurant I've visited and the friendly members of staff make each visit a unique occasion. The speciality dishes are from Kerala in South India and every month they focus on dishes from different states in India. During the day, the menu offers less expensive options with snacks and light bites. This is my most favourite Indian restaurant in North London.
K Turner (3 July 2008)
La Kera is a hidden gem, tucked away but well worth checking out as it is the best Indian restaurant for miles. There is a fantastic selection of freshly prepared dishes and the menu is great for vegetarians as well. Whether you enjoy North or South Indian food, you'll adore the variety there and parking is available right outside. You'll not be disappointed.
