La Petite Auberge
107 High Street, Great Missenden, HP16 0BB
If you thought the name was a camouflage you will quickly be convinced that it is the real thing the moment you step inside. The décor sets the tone followed by, should you encounter him, M. Hubert Martel whose mission in life would appear to be to appeal to, and satisfy the Gallic instincts that so many of us have when it comes to matters of the table. So brace yourselves for coquilles Saint Jacques with sauce vierge and iced nougat with chocolate sauce. Service can be a bit ragged if they are busy. Wines hale from France and are very good if you don't mind sticking to one country. House wines from £11.50.French

REVIEWS OF La Petite Auberge
Ian Moody (6 September 2007)
My wife and I dine there on special occasions, probably two to three times a year and have done so since it had first opened. Whilst the menu was not extensive, everything was cooked fresh. The standard has been maintained ever since we first started going there and has always been exceptional. Wine list not large but was good. It seats ca twenty six people. Allow all evening for the meal if you are having two/three courses. Highly recommended and the service was good.
Roy Horn (2 January 2003)
The food here is excellent, I haven't sampled the menu extensively but it left me stunned at the taste and flavour. However, the setting reminds me so much of my aunt's living room that it does make it difficult to experience an unforgettable evening out. Good selection of wines, to complement the menu.
Well worth a try. It is quite small, maybe 15 persons, so it does create a very intimate dining experience.
