La Plancha Spanish Tapas & Cocktail Bar Description
Winner of the coveted Birmingham Metro Newcomer Restaurant of the Year Award 2005, this place offers genuine, and interesting, Spanish tapas rather than the rather poorer versions found elsewhere; whilst at the same time serving up a trendy experience for the Birmingham socialising crowd.
A high energy experience with funky cocktails, good quality wines, champagne and mouth watering, authentic Tapas served daily, all set in an intimate and sophisticated atmosphere.
Dishes include such delicious offerings as traditional Spanish potato and onion omelette with Spanish chorizo; King Prawns sautéed in olive oil with hot chilli peppers and pork loin in Malaga wine with pine nuts and sultanas, whilst naturally their Valencian paella is a speciality.

I'm an old Moseley-ite so I was pleasantly surprised when we saw La Plancha on a visit to Brum. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. It is a perfectly good bar but if you are going to sell yourself as a restaurant then it is essential to get the food right and La Plancha doesn't. The hot dishes (meatballs and chicken in red wine) tasted as if they'd come from a can. The peppers in vinegar certainly had come from a jar which is OK but not at £5 a throw. On the upside the feta salad and tortilla were OK but again overpriced for the size/quality. As lovers of Spanish tapas we were extremely disappointed. It irks me to think that we would have had better food and at a lower price at somewhere like the La Tasca chain (which we are no great fans of either).
Matt Beard (31 March 2007)
Have just visited La Plancha in Moseley for dinner and I have to say it was a major disappointment. The service was slow and in one particular case downright rude, food very, very average, lukewarm and the order was wrong. We had scallops (overcooked), meatballs and patatas bravas (both cold), 'Spanish stew' (inedible) and garlic mushrooms (ok). We also had cold garlic bread and a salad (they would have done well to mess that up). Dessert was profiteroles that were clearly out of a packet (evidence in the fridge actually in the restaurant!) and I had a cold Irish coffee. The whole meal was also accompanied by loud building work going on above the restaurant. The bill, when it did arrive after asking for it twice, was wrong and when queried the waitress was incredibly rude. Do not visit this place would be my advice.
