La Tasca - Brighton
165-169 North Street, Brighton, BN1 1EA
The lively La Tasca chain caters for parties, children's events and family gatherings in addition to anytime dining. These restaurants capture well the warm and vibrant spirit of Spain, and are best known for their tapas and traditional paellas. Their star player is tapas, which can be had solo or in tandem with a meal. The calamares andaluza, deep-fried squid rings, served with roasted garlic mayonnaise and lemon, is great for sharing, while the chorizo frito al vino, spicy Spanish sausage flavoured with paprika, garlic and herbs, sautéed in red wine, offers a real treat. Chicken lovers order alitas de pollo, marinated chicken wings, or have skewers of chicken breast and pepper, marinated in paprika. The lively La Tasca chain caters for parties, children's events and family gatherings in addition to anytime dining. Valenciana is an interesting paella that combines seafood with chicken, and if you have a taste for trivia, you may be surprised to learn that 'la paella' actually refers to the utensil in which the dish is cooked.
Other than liqueurs and beer, there are wines from Spanish vineyards and sparkling cava. All of these, especially the dry rosé wines combine well with tapas. And you would be really getting into the spirit of things if you rounded off with the crema Catalana, traditional Spanish-style vanilla custard, topped with caramelised sugar.
La Tasca Spanish Tapas Restaurants and Bars today have over sixty outlets across the UK, so it is odds on there is a branch fairly close to your home.

REVIEWS OF La Tasca - Brighton
Harry (12 January 2008)
We went for lunch, and it was dissapointing. The servings were so small, we had to order a few servings of bread just to fill ourselves. The food was bland. The cherizo was pathetic - about five thin slices, in a bowl of olive oil. I would not recommend this restaurant.
Richard Lawson (17 October 2005)
We visited La Tasca in Brighton's North Street on Saturday 15 October 2005. It’s attractively decorated and serves a perfectly acceptable sangria, but its Paella Valenciana is the most disappointing apology for a paella we've ever experienced.
It arrived as a flat, plain bed of rice with no decoration other than some lemon wedges. After waiting almost an hour we were hungry and dug in. Underneath the bed of rice we found some bits of fish, chicken and squid, but there were no prawns or mussels and, above all, the paella seemed to be void of any other flavouring or ingredients.
Munching through the dry, bland rice was heavy-going, so we asked for extra lemon. When this didn’t arrive we decided to complain about the whole meal. When I compared this paella to other, good, ones I’ve had elsewhere, the head waitress (?) told me: “This isn’t Spain,” a bit of a marketing faux pas for a chain that prides itself on its ‘front-of-house’ Spanishness. As a result, we were charged for only one portion. The saving of £9.25 did not, however, compensate for the disappointment.
