La Tasca - Leamington Spa Description
The lively La Tasca chain caters for parties, children's events and family gatherings in addition to anytime dining. These restaurants capture well the warm and vibrant spirit of Spain, and are best known for their tapas and traditional paellas. You could choose from several versions of their menu - rapido, if you are in a hurry, tapas for a tenner, when you want exceptional value, a regular mains list, party and a popular kid's carte - truly a place for all occasions.
Their star player is tapas, which can be had solo or in tandem with a meal. The fritura mixta de pescado, deep fried squid, tuna, whitebait and king prawn with lemon, sea salt and roasted garlic mayonnaise is great for sharing, while the rape a la naranja made of monkfish in white wine, orange and coriander, offers a real treat. Chicken lovers order alitas de pollo, juicy wings marinated in garlic and paprika, or have skewered fresh breast and red peppers. Chef's selection of Tapas for Two offers a dazzling range of delectable dishes for £25.95.
Valenciana is an interesting paella that combines seafood with chicken, and if you have a taste for trivia, you may be surprised to learn that 'la paella' actually refers to the utensil in which the dish is cooked. Jerezana, with chorizo, squid, spinach, hot green chilli peppers, garlic, tomato and herbs was developed by José Luis, La Tasca's Chef of the Year. A variety of tortillas, mushrooms sautéed in olive oil and fried potatoes in a spicy sauce provide enough choice for vegetarians.
Other than liqueurs and beer, there are wines from Spanish vineyards and sparkling cava. All of these, especially the dry rosé wines combine well with tapas. And you would be really getting into the spirit of things if you rounded off with the crema Catalana, a delicious dark and white chocolate mousse filled with creamy liqueur.
La Tasca Spanish Tapas Restaurants and Bars today have over seventy outlets across the UK, so odds on there is a branch close to your home.
Your Reviews of La Tasca - Leamington Spa
Carol & Louise (16 March 2008)
I have been to La Tasca twice now for lunch and had very good service and lovely meals. The surroundings are very pleasant and comfortable. We have found on both occasions that the staff have been very friendly and polite and we have enjoyed a relaxed lunch and will certainly be going again. My daughter too has been on other occasions and equally enjoyed herself and the food. The special tapas deal with drinks is certainly very good value for money.
Matt Smith (31 January 2008)
We arrived at the restaurant and were shown to our table promptly and given menus. Nearly fifteen minutes passed and we still had not received our drinks, so we asked the waitress if they were on their way - she apologised and shortly after, the drinks arrived.
We observed a table near ours complain about their tapas. We were on the verge of complaining after waiting for our food for half an hour, when it arrived. Not all of our tapas dishes had been brought out but we thought the rest would follow as the waiter's tray was full - ten minutes had passed and there was still no sign of the rest of the food so we complained again. We had received a dish we hadn't even ordered and the waitress apologised and wrote down what we hadn't received after which we got told that they had run out of one of the dishes. The food was substandard, greasy, tasteless and not warm. There was no way we were going to order more despite the fact we were still hungry as we didn't want to wait. We again observed a group having to complain. The only positive comment I can make on this place is the waitress was very pleasant and helpful.
We went to a nearby pub for a pint and stood at the bar talking about what a terrible meal we had just had - the bar maid said, “did I hear you say you have just been to that new Spanish place, it's poor isn't it, I went there at the weekend and it was terrible”. To sum it up, we had a terrible experience.
