La Tasca - Leeds

4 Greek Street, Leeds, LS1 5PT

The lively La Tasca chain caters for parties, children's events and family gatherings in addition to anytime dining. These restaurants capture well the warm and vibrant spirit of Spain, and are best known for their tapas and traditional paellas. Their star player is tapas, which can be had solo or in tandem with a meal. The calamares andaluza, deep-fried squid rings, served with roasted garlic mayonnaise and lemon, is great for sharing, while the chorizo frito al vino, spicy Spanish sausage flavoured with paprika, garlic and herbs, sautéed in red wine, offers a real treat. Chicken lovers order alitas de pollo, marinated chicken wings, or have skewers of chicken breast and pepper, marinated in paprika.

Valenciana is an interesting paella that combines seafood with chicken, and if you have a taste for trivia, you may be surprised to learn that 'la paella' actually refers to the utensil in which the dish is cooked.

Other than liqueurs and beer, there are wines from Spanish vineyards and sparkling cava. All of these, especially the dry rosé wines combine well with tapas. And you would be really getting into the spirit of things if you rounded off with the crema Catalana, traditional Spanish-style vanilla custard, topped with caramelised sugar.

La Tasca Spanish Tapas Restaurants and Bars today have over sixty outlets across the UK, so it is odds on there is a branch fairly close to your home.

REVIEWS OF La Tasca - Leeds

Louise Forbes (8 July 2011)

Tapas or not to tapas that was our question? Based on a previous visit early January, it was really very good. We decided to give this place another chance after visiting in January. We were greeted by the most welcoming manager who I later learned was called Declan and had come back to this restaurant from running another site. He was fabulous and the whole impression from our first visit vanished. We were offered a cocktail as soon as we sat down which of course we went for. The Gordons Blush was electric in the mouth. The restaurant started to fill up and our waiter Paulo advised us that our food would be along shortly. We had chance to then soak up the atmosphere and really study the standard of service at La Tasca whilst nibbling on the lovely onion bread. It was fascinating to watch the team - it was so engaging, they were obviously happy in their work and it showed. The food arrived and my, did it look great! The chorizo and tortilla were cooked to perfection but my favourite had to be the calamares with the paprika mayo. Yummy! We were too stuffed after our meal to have a dessert but went for another cocktail at the bar. The barman was very friendly and very chatty just what you want in a barman. Upon leaving we asked for Declan who came over with his cheery and confident character and we advised him that our last visit was a bit of a let down and that tonight had been out of this world. He was very gracious, appreciated our comments and advised us that La Tasca Leeds will be one to watch under his leadership with a pending refurbishment - which yes we will be coming back to see. Well done - Declan and the team. Fantastic!

Great night in La Tasca last night - lovely food, but especially enjoyed the hospitality of the Duty Manager Anton. What a character! It is worth a visit if only for the banter with him. Thanks Anton!
