Labworth Restaurant
Canvey Island, nr Southend-On-Sea, SS8 7DW
This unique Grade II listed property was built by Ove Arup, a name synonymous with the engineering plan of Sydney Opera House, but with the arrival of Chris Topping in 1998, things have changed for the better when this once neglected building was smartened up keeping the original design intact. Add to that uninterrupted views of the Thames estuary and you have a desirable setting for an enjoyable meal. The menu at Labworth is a blend of Mediterranean and modern British cooking and salmon parcels and baked avocado thermidor with tuna, prawns and crabmeat are enough to establish the kitchen's competence for a start. And there's more evidence of it in dishes like chicken boursin, fillet of pork stroganoff and lamb cutlets reforme. This unique Grade II listed property was built by Ove Arup, a name synonymous with the engineering plan of Sydney Opera House, but with the arrival of Chris Topping in 1998, things have changed for the better when this once neglected building was smartened up keeping the original design intact. Finger buffets and the Sunday lunch menu give diners even stronger reasons to visit The Labworth Restaurant.

REVIEWS OF Labworth Restaurant
TB (26 March 2009)
After hearing great reviews from friends we decided to go along for a birthday treat. On arrival we found the staff very welcoming, drinks and nibbles served in a compact bar area where our order was taken to avoid waiting at the table. Very enjoyable meal, only thing I would change is the desserts - after some lovely, well presented, tasty food it was a bit of a disappointment. It’s quite pricey for the local area, £150ish for four people, but worth a visit for a special treat. Be warned, rumour has it that it is hard to get booked as the dining room is very small but we managed it with a few weeks notice.

I absolutely love this restaurant. I have eaten there so many times and have never ever been disappointed. The food looks and tastes great and the waiting members of staff are always polite. Love it!
