Lahore Kebab House

2-10 Umberston Street, London, E1 1PY

Many consider the Lahore Kebab House on Umberston Street to be the very last word when it comes to delicious curries and they are quite possibly accurate in that verdict. This long standing restaurant had humble beginnings but in recent times it has redefined itself to fit into the mould that is expected of Indian restaurants, without ever becoming boring or predictable. Food here is from the subcontinent and as the name suggests, belongs more to Pakistan than India and whilst the distinction is subtle it is nevertheless present. As starters go, you might expect to see grilled lamb chops or seekh kebab as you settle down for a meal. Follow this with a delicious keema curry, minced lamb cooked with spices or maybe methi chicken, flavourful pieces cooked with fenugreek leaves.

However, do make a note of the days they serve the Lahore Kebab House specials; these are well worth the trouble, be it nihari, an exquisite lamb curry or chicken haleem, a thick soup made with lentils, broken wheat and shredded chicken.

REVIEWS OF Lahore Kebab House

Minhaal (11 April 2007)

Excellent food. Now the restaurant has been redecorated and enlarged making the atmosphere fun and relaxed. The food is freshly cooked and sizzling hot when it is served. The famous starters of sheesh kebab, boneless chicken and mishake are a delight. Their curries are spicy, full of taste and served just right. I have been going to this restaurant since I was a baby and I definitely recommend it.

Cas (11 December 2005)

Very possibly the best food in London, really.
