Lamb Inn
Lambs Green, Rusper, Horsham, RH12 4RG
Ever since a colleague once arrived at licensed premises to find them in the final throes of consumption by fire, arson suspected, I have nurtured a certain reluctance to include such phrases as "you will find a roaring fire to welcome you" when reviewing. However, you get the drift and the Lamb Inn is peppered with other period features as well, like stone flag floors, ancient wooden beams and bits calculated to guide your thinking towards old England. Which is a good thing because the food derives from there and progresses through the various ethnic additions of the last forty or so years to emerge triumphantly British with a modern twist. Grilled New Zealand green-lipped mussels with garlic butter, topped with cheese compete with homemade tomato and Basil soup.Ever since a colleague once arrived at licensed premises to find them in the final throes of consumption by fire, arson suspected, I have nurtured a certain reluctance to include such phrases as "you will find a roaring fire to welcome you" when reviewing.

Grilled New Zealand green-lipped mussels with garlic butter, topped with cheese compete with homemade tomato and Basil soup. A Thai chicken curry comes with Basmati rice, poppadum and mango chutney and stands well with an 8 oz Aberdeen Angus Charolais fillet steak with accompanying chips, peas, mushrooms, onion ring and tomato.
The sticky toffee pudding is graced with butterscotch sauce and ice cream and tea and coffee costs a modest £1 a cup. A well-built wine list has plenty of choice below £20 with decent Vin de Pays at £9.50 a bottle or £2.50 for a large glass.
Sadly, the man who used to bring his lamas for a walk to the pub, leaving them tethered outside, with interesting results when they broke loose and insisted on joining him in the bar, seems to be no more.

REVIEWS OF Lamb Inn
Mange-Tout (8 July 2009)
We booked for a family birthday celebration on Sunday evening. I was surprised it wasn't busier as it was a lovely evening. The young staff were friendly and welcoming. I felt the blackboard menu was a little limited but offered a reasonable selection and along with the grills on the standard menu we found something to suit everyone. As it was my birthday I splashed out on the 1/2 duck in an orange and peppercorn sauce. This came with new potatoes and a side dish of kale and butternut squash. The duck was cooked beautifully and the whole dinner was very tasty. The other meals were all well received and the portion sizes were good. There were some very fine wines available as well as the standard range behind the bar, but I felt obliged to enjoy a pint of 'Old Dad', which wasn't an 'old' but a pleasant fruity bitter. The desserts claimed to be homemade and were very tasty and again good portion sizes. Certainly a cut above the usual mass produced offerings most pubs dish out. A nice selection of Devon ice creams from Salcombe was also enjoyed. So, well cooked and presented food, a lovely environment, friendly and efficient staff combined to make a very enjoyable evening which I hope to repeat again in the future.
Ullis (3 December 2007)
We went for a late lunch on November 07 and they still let us order lunch. The service was great. The food was lovely, I had a lovely trout and my husband loved his sirloin steak. The dessert was lovely as well. I would be going back.
