Langan's Brasserie

Stratton Street, Piccadilly, London, W1J 8LB

The legendary Langan's Brasserie situated just off Piccadilly, presently in its 31st year continues to go from strength to strength. Originally the creation of the wayward genius, Peter Langan, it was an instant success socially, but unfortunately could not maintain a consistent standard of food. However, the day was saved by the recruitment of Richard Shephard - at that time the Head Chef at the highly respected Capital Hotel. He pulled the kitchen together and became the driving force behind the expansion of the Langan's Restaurant Group. So much so that Peter himself sadly turned into a rather drunken disadvantage, causing huge embarrassment on occasions by his inebriated antics. With its Anglo/French style of cuisine it remains one of London's top eateries to be seen in for celebrities, business people & joe public alike.

With its Anglo/French style of cuisine it remains one of London's top eateries to be seen in for celebrities, business people & joe public alike. Whether you feel more comfortable in smart casual dress or a dinner suit, you will not feel out of place there, since everybody is given the same warm Langan's welcome.

With its constant buzz, walls covered with fine art and their famous haphazard selection of lampshades, the ground floor has such a unique atmosphere that once you've experienced it, I am confident you'll go back for more.

If you prefer to dine in more sedate surroundings, why not try their Venetian Room situated on the first floor, where you will be enveloped by their magnificent Patrick Procktor mural of Venice.

The Brasserie's menu, which is hand-written daily, includes such a vast array of starters, main courses and desserts that there is sure to be something to tempt even the most particular of palates.

With mouth-watering starters such as field mushrooms & bacon topped with Lancashire cheese or smoked duck breast with celeriac salad followed by a main course such as grilled calves liver & bacon or their infamous Langans bangers & mash with white onion sauce, who could possibly go empty away?

If you still have space, why not treat yourself to one of their many tempting desserts such as banana pancakes with toffee sauce or apricot & whisky bread n' butter pudding then finish off with one of their wide range of liqueurs and coffees.

The Brasserie also offers a diverse wine list with something for everyone, including many French favourites such as Chablis, Muscadet, St.Emilon and Chateauneuf du Pape or from further afield maybe a Chardonnay from South Australia or New Zealand, a Rioja from Spain, a Cabernet Sauvignon from California or Shiraz from South Africa.

Despite having some critics, Langan's Brasserie has certainly moved forward most successfully with time and occupies a unique niche in the London restaurant scene.

REVIEWS OF Langan's Brasserie

Hammond (26 August 2011)

Had a lovely luncheon at Langhamns on Thursday 25th August. All good, plenty of variety on a fairly extensive lunchtime menu. Service perfect efficient and friendly. Small downside was the noise, it was very busy and very full. However, soon quieted down as the business lunchers departed. Will definitely visit again.

Grave Penguin (23 January 2009)

Ate at Langans on 21 Jan. It was very busy and as usual the food was fantastic. I had soufflé, smoked haddock and a chocolate brownie. It remains my favourite place to eat.
