Another of those wonderful Westcountry substantial houses that have survived most of the flak thrown at them over the years. Henry VIII was a previous owner and would have doubtless approved of the victuals on offer to enthusiastic diners. Start with roasted mushrooms, accompanied by roasted peppers and goat's cheese. Then perhaps the slow cooked belly pork with mashed root vegetables and Shiraz syrup. I know I am always banging on about Westcountry cheeses, but they are superb and outclass any desserts I could be offered, with the possible exception of a Devon creamery ice cream, on its own, no fripperies. The wine list may not do total justice to, I suspect, those ideal temperature cellars lurking beneath, but it is adequate. House wine at £8.50 is not to be ignored lightly.
