Langtrys Restaurant
Langtry Manor Hotel, Derby Road, East Cliff, Bournemouth, BH1 3QB
There was less fuss about what a member of the Royal family got up to in his private life in 1877 than there is nowadays. So it was relatively easy for the then Prince of Wales to build a handsome villa on the sunny south coast in which he could enjoy seaside dalliances with Lillie Langtry. The lady created a warmth of welcome which the current owners, in their own particular way, also seek to do. The Main Hall, now Lillie Restaurant, features stained glass windows, chandeliers, hand carved inglenook fireplace and is overlooked by the magnificent Minstrels Gallery. The fine dining menu could begin with crab, chilli and leek ravioli with a prawn bisque followed by pan seared fillet of beef with chanterelle timbale and truffle mash and ending with cookie crusted profiteroles with Bavarian cream. There was less fuss about what a member of the Royal family got up to in his private life in 1877 than there is nowadays. The six-course Edwardian Banquet held on Saturdays, as featured on BBC Holiday Programme, has been popular for over twenty-five years and is an occasion not to be missed.

REVIEWS OF Langtrys Restaurant
Jenny banks (4 January 2008)
We dined at Langtry’s recently and were disappointed. The dining room was very nice and the staff were very polite. The starter was excellent with nice rolls and spreadable butter, but things went downhill after that. My vegetarian mushroom pastry was dry and tasteless; my companions complained that their meat was very tough. The vegetables were boring and they appeared to have been tipped out of a frozen super market bag and just microwaved. The sweet was similarly tasteless and boring.
The coffee in the lounge was good, however, the mince pies served with the coffee were huge. After a meal it would be best to serve miniature mince pies or petite fleurs. The huge mince pies were generally wasted as people found them too much.
We dressed ourselves well, however, there didn't appear to be a dress code, there were some people in jeans and jumpers which spoiled the ambience. We won't go there again - a pity, as historically, it is an interesting restaurant

A really nice restaurant, something like I've never seen before. The waiters were in full costume and the food was lovely.
