Langtrys Restaurant Description
There was less fuss about what a member of the Royal family got up to in his private life in 1877 than there is nowadays. So it was relatively easy for the then Prince of Wales to build a handsome villa on the sunny south coast in which he could enjoy seaside dalliances with Lily Langtry.
The lady created a warmth of welcome which the current owners, in their own particular way, also seek to do. Hearty dining would have been high on the list, and still is, though perhaps with a touch more refinement. The Main Hall, now Lillie Restaurant, features stained glass windows, chandeliers, hand carved inglenook fireplace and is overlooked by the magnificent Minstrels Gallery.
Sunday to Friday offers candlelit fine dining where you can experience the exclusivity of watching your food being flambéed at your table. Every Saturday, the celebrated liaison is remembered with an Edwardian candlelit banquet in which such dishes as a warm salad of langoustine tails and avocado, and grilled fillet of park will feature. The six course Edwardian Banquet, as featured on BBC Holiday Programme, has been popular for over twenty-five years and is an occasion not to be missed.
The climax of the meal is invariably a flambee of Jamaican bananas, with the action carried out at your table. House wine is £12.50 and the preferred dress code is jacket and tie, though I think I'd feel that nothing less than black tie would do justice to the occasion and the memories that it evokes.

Your Reviews of Langtrys Restaurant

We dined at Langtry’s recently and were disappointed. The dining room was very nice and the staff were very polite. The starter was excellent with nice rolls and spreadable butter, but things went downhill after that. My vegetarian mushroom pastry was dry and tasteless; my companions complained that their meat was very tough. The vegetables were boring and they appeared to have been tipped out of a frozen super market bag and just microwaved. The sweet was similarly tasteless and boring.
The coffee in the lounge was good, however, the mince pies served with the coffee were huge. After a meal it would be best to serve miniature mince pies or petite fleurs. The huge mince pies were generally wasted as people found them too much.
We dressed ourselves well, however, there didn't appear to be a dress code, there were some people in jeans and jumpers which spoiled the ambience. We won't go there again - a pity, as historically, it is an interesting restaurant

A really nice restaurant, something like I've never seen before. The waiters were in full costume and the food was lovely.
