L'Anima Description
In a deliberate contrast of sorts, the minimalist décor at L'Anima with its clean lines, floor to ceiling glass walls and spacious effects, actually exudes luxury of the highest order. This look was achieved by the architectural maestro, Claudio Silvestrin who has laboured extensively to produce the stunning interior of this Italian restaurant.
Noted chef Francesco Mazzei is at the helm of affairs there and he effortlessly unites different elements, tastes and textures from varied parts of Italy such as Calabria, Sicily and Sardinia. Try the intense seafood stew with fregola, a heady combination of clams, mussels and squid in reduced tomato sauce or the signature tagliata, an upright marrowbone stuffed with mashed potato, draped with tender slices of beef, to resemble a funghi porcini. The giant chocolate truffle is wicked and contains ice cream and a dark liquid centre.
The bar serves a selection of cocktails, wines and champagne and you can also have an informal lunch, perched on the high stools there.
Your Reviews of L'Anima
RedFred (29 October 2008)
I visited L'Anima recently for dinner. I came away unimpressed and will not return. The bar was full of braying, city-folk swilling cocktails as though the world was about to end. They have the most uncomfortable barstools ever, and you have to fight to be offered a drinks menu. As for the restaurant itself, the food was, at times, inspired – the crab and avocado starter and later cheese dish, in particular. However, the pasta was chewy, although the salami sauce was wonderful. The lamb was undercooked; I had ordered medium, and the accompanying chicory was as tough as nails. The potatoes were, however, excellent. The service was fawning and patchy; a drink arrived that I had not ordered and the wine I had ordered, did not. At £110 for one, I expect more.
