Latium Restaurant Description
Chef Maurizio Morelli worked at Paolo, The Halkin and The Lanesborough before opening Latium, with its strong inclination towards the cooking of Northern Italy. Unlike many Italian restaurants the style is minimalist with a strong contrast between floor and furniture and a pale, but warm, décor.
Maurizio's unique passion for Italian cuisine has created one of the best seasonal menus in London, with a strong commitment to sourcing Italian produce, he cooks in a way that best represents the flavours and seasonal variations of Italy. Using small producers and imported ingredients from his own home town of Latina, near Rome, he puts in a bid to provide the most authentic Italian flavours in London.
Dishes to be seen frequently on the menu are stewed baby octopus, cauliflower soup with gorgonzola, fillet of seabass, grilled fillet of beef, and roast squid filled with prawns and mussels. Desserts may or may not be just but they are certainly beguiling and the lemon, almond and chocolate tart with amaretto sauce certainly takes some resisting. In 2004 Maurizio was honoured with a Restaurant Remy Award.
