Launceston Place Description
Launceston Place re-launched on 17th March 2008 after its acquisition by DandD London. Under the guidance of head chef Tristan Welch, who came there from Petrus, and manager Hadi Aknin (also formerly at Petrus) Launceston Place is serving modern British food within a contemporary setting.
The menu offers quintessential British classics. Starters include breaded Cornish mackerel with Cambridge sauce and house smoked salmon with watercress and turnip salad. Amongst the main courses are sirloin of long horn beef 'cobbler' with Lincolnshire cheddar and Guinness, as well as poached carp with young leeks, nutmeg and lemon. A touch of food theatre also brings the restaurant to life with drunken
quail flambéed at the table.
Desserts include walnut cream with banana sorbet and toffee mousse, and lemon slice with thyme sorbet. Every Sunday, true to British tradition a roast is served with all the trimmings!
In addition to its 60 seat restaurant Launceston Place boasts a semi private room, 'the chef's office', where tables of up to ten are invited to dine overseeing the activities of the kitchen via a plasma screen. In addition Tristan is on hand to create a bespoke seven course menu for the diners as well as answer any questions they may have.
However, you don't need to take our word for it as there is a lot of information on their Website including details of the menu, wine list and holding private parties there.

Your Reviews of Launceston Place
Mitch Morris (19 December 2005)
I cannot rave enough about this place. I took my girlfriend here for a romantic dinner and we were both very impressed. We were greeted at the door and made to feel very welcome in the relaxed and elegant setting. The waitresses were attentive but not intrusive, and we began our evening with a complimentary glass of champagne. The food was excellent, well developed at not too expensive. All in all we had a fantastic evening and the four hours we were there flew by.
Bill Yeager (29 March 2005)
I visit London frequently, 4 to 6 times a year, on business and I always have one dinner on each trip at Launceston Place. While it is viewed as "modern British" cuisine, I rather view it as the contemporary cuisine that is much like one finds in the best restaurants around the world. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and rate restaurants with those I find near home, and Launceston Place certainly is right up there with the best of them: Masa's, Fleur de Lys, 231 Ellesworth, and Bistro Elan to name a few.
What I look for is fresh ingredients combined elegantly to yield a subtle dish that has complexity, that has balance. Food must never be overworked. This sounds like I am describing a fine wine, and I do look for the same qualities in both.
I highly recommend Launceston Place.
