Le Chanterelle

Sherborne Causeway, Shaftesbury, SP7 9PX

Within a recently refurbished 18th century cottage, this family run business offers Modern French cuisine to a very high standard of fine dining. Head chef Ryan Lamb uses only the highest quality, locally sourced produce, which is complemented by the extensive wine menu. Everything, including even the sorbets and petits fours, is made on the premises. The high standard of food produced is reflective of Ryan's training at restaurants including the Michelin Star rated Le Poussin at Lyndhurst, Hampshire and The Chesil Rectory in Winchester. They offer a set priced lunch menu starting at £13 for two courses and a set evening menu at £35 for three courses.

REVIEWS OF Le Chanterelle

Lansar (31 July 2011)

We have just come back from yet another visit to this wonderful restaurant, having had the most beautiful meal - as always!! We discovered this "hidden gem" about three years ago and it has become our first choice for all those special ocassions - birthdays, anniversaries, etc. From the moment you walk in, you are welcomed and treated as special guests. The atmosphere is gentle and warm, with attention paid to all details. As for the food - well, the only thing I can say is WOW!!!! A 3 course set menu for only £25 - with the most amazing cheese souffle I have ever eaten - cheaper than many pubs yet matching standards with high quality, expensive hotel restaurants. Ryan is a fantastic chef; every single dish we have ever had has been superb, both in presentation and taste! His ingredients are of the highest quality, as are his culinery skills. He may be young (as noted by the last reviewer on this site) but he certainly has the experience and expertise necessary to produce top quality dishes. Can't wait to go back again - the sooner the better!

The Clamps (3 February 2011)

Just getting down to reviewing the restaurants in which we have dined at lunch time for a popular food guide and we apologise for being so late. Our visit was in the year 2010. We had a lovely welcome from the chef's mother who was proud of her son's achievements as she had every right to be. The food was delicious, well prepared and presented. Twice baked Denham cheese soufflé and warm chocolate fondant with double cream - both specialities of the chef were every bit as good as one would expect. We were on holiday and trying local restaurants - we rate this one highly.
