Le Sacre-Coeur

18 Theberton Street, London, N1 0QX

A gleaming white, Romanesque style structure with splendid views is expected at its namesake in Paris, but here in Theberton Street it's a different picture altogether, a far cry from the French landmark. At Le Sacre-Coeur there's a buzzy atmosphere with everyone enjoying fine camaraderie and lines of conversation interspersed with food and drink. Movie posters and lanterns in the background may not be to everyone's liking, but who cares if the food is good and prices are easy on the wallet? The cooking is interesting enough with grilled vodka marinated king prawns setting the tone, followed by braised shin of pork served with red wine, lentils and smoked bacon, or grilled Toulouse sausages with Dijon mustard.

The cooking is interesting enough with grilled vodka marinated king prawns setting the tone, followed by braised shin of pork served with red wine, lentils and smoked bacon, or grilled Toulouse sausages with Dijon mustard. A good French crêpe is always hard to resist and what with stuffings like vanilla ice cream topped with raspberry sauce, and chocolate and banana with Malibu and almonds who cares what the waistline does?

House red and white from Le Bouquet de Georges Duboeuf Blanc feature on the house list and are available by the glass, carafe and bottle.

REVIEWS OF Le Sacre-Coeur

Sarah D (11 October 2005)

This is our favourite French restaurant in London, great food and service and a lovely atmosphere. Always wonderful tarte tatin!

Matthew Swift (18 October 2004)

Food here is consistently good to very good, mix this with warm friendly staff and prices that won't break the bank and you have a great winner! The quality of the raw ingredients is always fresh and the fish is especially good. It has a laid back cosy bistro atmosphere with theatre posters on the wall. This place stands out in Islington where other choices are either restaurant chains or more expensive (but not necessarily better!) stuffy eateries.
