Lemon Tree
14-16 Water Lane, Bishop's Stortford, CM23 2LB
With beamed ceilings, exposed brick walls and wooden floors, The Lemon Tree is housed within a charming 16th century building, making the best use of its historic setting. The Courtyard is for those who'd like a whiff of fresh air alongside their mid-morning coffee, a light summer lunch or an afternoon tea. After being featured in the Michelin and Good Food Guide, Bishop's Stortford residents have a good reason to visit this restaurant and enjoy some fine cooking by Luke Fishpool and warm hospitality rendered by his wife Sue. Lemon Tree's commitment to local and regional suppliers cannot be more emphasized on their menu, with notations such as 'l' and 'uk' indicating their sources. So whether it's the potted kipper pâté with tomato relish and Melba toast; creamy local rabbit and potato pie, or chocolate gateau with black cherry parfait and Chantilly, the idea is to preserve cultural cuisine and sustain neighbouring eco-regions.With beamed ceilings, exposed brick walls and wooden floors, The Lemon Tree is housed within a charming 16th century building, making the best use of its historic setting. REVIEWS OF Lemon Tree
Jay (2 March 2011)
Amazing food, which we really enjoyed. We were chatting afterwards to the lovely manager Alex and she told us that the food is made from scratch, from local suppliers. Having worked in the restaurant industry, this really is very unusual, most high street restaurants will at least buy in stock, pasta, bread, sauces and maybe some puddings, chain restaurants and pubs will be mainly stuff shipped in. It really put in to focus what fantastic value it was, because of the amount of work that goes into the food. We will definitely go again.
Debbie Holmes (5 February 2009)
Four of us had a superb meal at the Lemon Tree this evening, four steaks each cooked to perfection, service exceptional and a dessert plate with ‘Happy Birthday’ written in chocolate, a really nice touch made a celebration meal very special. We would all recommend this restaurant without exception to all of our friends.
