Lemongrass Description

Situated in the heart of one of Stoke Newington's oldest but most vibrant streets, Lemongrass offers diners a range of traditional and new style Thai cuisine. The restaurant catches the attention of diners, with its bright green exterior, vibrant red and yellow walls, oak floors and cosy sprung-back beech wood chairs. The elegant conservatory style roof enhances the warm and relaxed atmosphere within the main dining area, and the attentive staff make the restaurant a welcome destination.

Begin your meal with soup, salad or starters - the sea krong lamb, stir fried marinated spare ribs with garlic, pepper and spring onion, help set the tone. You could also try the marinated beefsteak salad, char-grilled and thinly sliced, served with hot chilli dressing. Traditional Thai jungle curry, cooked with vegetables or hot chicken stock and red chilli is worthwhile.

Vegetarians are not neglected and there are dishes such as makely ga paw, deep-fried eggplant with onion, long bean bamboo shoot, sweet basil, red and green pepper. If stir-fried ostrich with basil, onion, courgette and fresh chilli sounds exciting, try it with any of the steamed or sticky rice or noodle combinations.

House specialities like the chef's choice, pla nurn, steamed, marinated sea bass with lemon, ginger, mushroom and rich plum sauce or the exotic lemongrass lobster are suitable dishes to sample the flavours of Thailand. Ped mak kham, chargrilled roasted duck breast, breaded, deep fried, sliced and served with tamarind sauce is succulent and full of flavour.

The vegetarian and non-vegetarian set menus provide reasonably priced alternatives for diners in twos and fours. Their wine list goes well with the menu and many of the spirits are available by the bottle or glass.
