Les Bouviers Restaurant Description
In an area which is not exactly short on restaurants of a high standard, Les Bouviers comes out well in the upper echelons. The food, drawn from carefully selected and genuinely fresh local ingredients, sets the tone. The Menu Gourmand from which the evening's offerings are selected features for instance a chicken liver parfait studded with pistachios and served with plum chutney and toasted brioche. After a sorbet thoughts might turn to a whole slip boned sole with a mushroom duxelle filling, Corton wine and tarragon reduction. To finish, perhaps the tangy passion fruit tart with clotted cream?
A lively wine list does ample justice to the food, with house wine at £10.25.

The food was really good but the meal was ruined by the fact that we had to wait for an hour and a half before we were even taken to our table. We had booked a table for 8.15 on Saturday night, and our orders were finally taken at 9.50. On arrival, we had been left hanging in the hall. After five minutes, another party left the waiting area, and we had taken the chance to take their seats and sit down. After another twenty minutes, we asked when we might be able to go into the dining area. The member of staff we spoke to said she'd go and see, and as the waiting area became more crowded, another member of staff came to take a drinks order, which arrived without the ice they had offered. At nearly 10 p.m. we were led, without explanation for the delay, to an un-crowded dining room. The food was very good, but with long waits between courses, and we left at 11.30.
As we left, we commented that the food was indeed very good, but asked why there had been such a delay. All they could say was that it was a fine day, and all the customers had arrived at the same time or late. The experience would have been much more enjoyable if only we'd been told earlier on, about why we were waiting.

Had a lovely evening there, the welcome was warm and the staff friendly. We had the "menu surprise" where the chef chose seven courses for us to taste and four different wines. We both agreed that four of the courses were fantastic, with only one that we felt lacked flavour. Both of us dislike herring and were concerned when we were given a dish of sweet herring with beetroot coulis, however we were both surprised at how much we enjoyed it. The loin of lamb was perfect and the passion fruit brûlée truly stunning. I would recommend a visit definitely.
