Located on the edge of New Forest in the quaint village of Normansland, Les Mirabelles may take a while to reach but it's worth the drive. Classic French cuisine at its best, with a fine selection of wines, has discerning diners coming back for more. The creation of Claude Laage from Alsace, this is a place where all those who appreciate the art of fine cooking can put their hands together in acclamation.

The à la carte menu has entrees of crab and prawn fishcake served with a beurre blanc, homemade pheasant terrine and pancake stuffed with goat's cheese and honey. Any one of slowly braised lamb shank a la bordelaise, boned quail stuffed with foie gras and raisins in fine pastry, or filet of halibut in a lobster sauce could make a satisfying main course. As with house specials, Shetland mussels in a creamy sauce and snails with pastis and garlic butter. Desserts include crème brulee, red fruits mousse, apple tart and a cheese platter. A choice selection of Chardonnays, Sauvignon blanc, Pinot noir, Merlots and Malbec could complement the delectable meal.
