Lincoln Grille at White Hart Hotel

We stayed at the White Hart and ate at the Grille in Lincoln on Christmas Eve, and the restaurant staff looked after us very well, despite us turning up an hour early for our booked table for dinner because we were hungry. The food was great - very tasty and well presented, and the service was very friendly. Perhaps some bigger groups of diners have suffered when the restaurant was busy, but as a party of two, we had a very enjoyable evening. Breakfast on Christmas Day was good too - fresh and tasty, good coffee, friendly service and proper Lincolnshire sausages.

Historically I would have said that the White Hart was the best hotel in Lincoln. Unfortunately their standards seem to have dropped substantially. I have recommended them twice in recent months and both times my visitors have been highly critical of the accommodation. Whilst they have invested in the bar area, the rooms are in serious need of upgrading. My parents stayed there on the 22nd and 23rd December. The room was pretty basic and the shower had a very poor thermostatic control. The restaurant was appalling. The tables were very narrow and one was wobbly. It couldn’t contain all the breakfast condiments because it was too small. The bacon was dry and tough and it took a complaint to improve it on the second day. On the first night my father ordered a medium steak and it came very well done. They paid £110 a night. I can’t say I can recommend the hotel to any visitors anymore, which is a shame as it should be the best hotel in Lincoln.
