Little India Description
Calling Indians hankering after the simplicity of a home cooked meal and also those who would like to discover the Indian subcontinent by taking the food trail first - Little India in Kensington could be the right place for you. Serving simple North Indian, Bengali and coastal cuisine, the chef focuses on providing tasty and honest fare. The dishes concentrate on freshness and simplicity of preparation so the ingredients retain their natural flavour and texture.
A hearty bowl of peppery mulligatawny soup whips up your appetite and wakes up your taste buds. If you prefer a milder way to start your meal, try the samosas, delicious filo cases with a mince stuffing or cool down with a healthy and refreshing, plain or mango flavoured, yoghurt based drink.
The mouth watering range of starters, including kebabs and grilled king prawns are a treat for the palate, as are the variety of gravies and curries on offer. Old favourites like chicken tikka masala and lamb cooked in tomato gravy are very popular; while there are many rich dishes like butter chicken on the menu, they also have tandoori dishes marinated and baked in a clay oven, which are healthier options.
Some signature dishes of Little India are chicken Naga, pieces of chicken cooked with fiery Naga chillies and tossed dry, and Sylheti lebu mossala, a Bangladeshi speciality made from chicken and lamb and cooked with citrus and spices. For the bold, there are the jalfrezi dishes, which are spicy and have a dash of onion and green pepper. These curries are best eaten with parathas, naan or pilau rice. There are plenty of choices for vegetarians as well.
Just as the charming domes on the outside are inviting, the pleasant décor, well laid out tables and smartly dressed waiters all make sure that Little India at Kensington makes you feel at home and warms your heart.

Your Reviews of Little India
Tony (30 May 2008)
Given your reference to ‘gravy’ you have to be an American! It reminded me of that episode from the Sopranos where the mob visits a fancy hotel in Naples, Italy where they keep referring to pasta sauces as gravies! However, I do agree with your review of this restaurant. It's one of our favourites. Christine and I go at least twice a week when we're in London. Its great Indian food with super, cheerful, friendly service - and it's very, very good value. Because of weight-watching, for the past year we've had to avoid the delicious ‘gravy’-ladened dishes like dansak. Instead we now go for the tandooris, like king prawn and chicken shahslik. It's a tiny restaurant as the name implies, so it's a good idea to book in advance.
