Little India Description

Calling all Indians hankering after the simplicity of a home cooked meal and also those who would like to discover the Indian subcontinent by taking the food trail first? Little India in Kensington could be just the right place for you. Serving simple North Indian, Bengali and coastal cuisine, the chef focuses on providing tasty and honest fare. The dishes concentrate on freshness and simplicity of preparation so the ingredients retain their natural flavour and texture.

Peppery mulligatawny soup whips up your appetite, or try the samosas, delicious filo cases with minced lamb, or tandoori dishes marinated and baked in a clay oven which are healthier options. Some signature dishes of Little India are chicken Naga cooked with fiery Naga chillies and tossed dry, and Sylheti lebu mossala, a Bangladeshi speciality made from chicken and lamb and cooked with citrus and spices.

Just as the charming domes on the outside are inviting, the pleasant décor, well laid out tables and smartly dressed waiters all make sure that Little India at Kensington makes you feel at home and warms your heart.

Your Reviews of Little India

Martin (29 August 2008)

We visited Little India when in London for a break recently. From the outside it doesn't look much, but the friendly greeting from the waiter standing in the doorway drew us in. We weren't disappointed. The menu contains the standard Indian fare, but with of number of specials to make it interesting. Starters were fresh and hot, and for mains the sylheti lamb was delicious - a curry cooked with citrus being just that bit different - and a lamb pasanda, beautifully tender with a creamy sauce. The service was friendly and attentive, and the prices very reasonable for London. This place is highly recommended.

Given your reference to ‘gravy’ you have to be an American! It reminded me of that episode from the Sopranos where the mob visits a fancy hotel in Naples, Italy where they keep referring to pasta sauces as gravies! However, I do agree with your review of this restaurant. It's one of our favourites. Christine and I go at least twice a week when we're in London. Its great Indian food with super, cheerful, friendly service - and it's very, very good value. Because of weight-watching, for the past year we've had to avoid the delicious ‘gravy’-ladened dishes like dansak. Instead we now go for the tandooris, like king prawn and chicken shahslik. It's a tiny restaurant as the name implies, so it's a good idea to book in advance.
