Loch Fyne - Poole Description

The Loch Fyne Restaurant notion was a child of the crisis that struck the food supply industry towards the end of the 1990s, when seafood presented itself as a healthy and readily available alternative to other forms of food that were under pressure at the time. Starting from a small roadside shop, today the business has thirty-eight outlets across Britain, including some in listed buildings, as well as the original site at Cairndow, Argyll.

Whilst the restaurants share a common background, there is a welcome degree of individuality encouraged throughout the group, which makes for customer interest. What each outlet retains is the same warm and friendly ambience, and fabulous food served with a smile. If you like wholesome, fresh and reliable seafood caught and reared under carefully controlled conditions, well presented in unfussy surroundings, and you enjoy being well looked after by pleasant staff, Loch Fyne is for you.

There is an increasing awareness of other forms of food as safety in such matters tightens, but it is the staple fare upon which their success was created that prevails. Loch Fyne kippers, a fine bouillabaisse, Braden Orach, a traditional strongly smoked salmon, and the toothsome oysters, sometime with chilli and coriander, all are to be found throughout the various restaurants, as well as good Scottish prime sirloin steaks and delicacies such as homemade crab cakes with chargrilled vegetable ratatouille.  There is invariably a well-travelled wine list, sensible, both in content and prices.

Loch Fyne's greatest achievement has been to prove to a sceptical populace that chains or conglomerates can be made to work in the eating public's interest, as well as ensure a decent profit for those who carry the responsibilities. If imitation is one of the most telling forms of success, Loch Fyne is doing very well.

Your Reviews of Loch Fyne - Poole

Justin (20 June 2008)

I've had a similar experience to the earlier reviewer. I've been to Loch Fyne three times and on one occasion my girlfriend had water thrown over her by the staff, and on another occasion a glass was broken, leaving shards of glass in my dinner, which was not dealt with by the staff. They really are a little chaotic. Having said that, the food is really very good, and if seafood is your thing then they've got it.

Rob (10 September 2007)

I had visited that restaurant with my parents and other half for lunch last Saturday. We'd booked just in case but I don't think we'd have had a problem getting a table if we'd just walked in off the street. The decor was very pleasant indeed. The place was bright, airy and quite relaxing. There were a few screaming kids, though, so it may be best to visit in the evening if that bothers you. Situated in Canford Cliffs, I was expecting stupid prices but was pleasantly surprised. My fish stew, a fish pie and crab cakes were about £12 per dish and a vegetarian pasta dish about £8. The stew was mine and it was okay. It was a little too watery and a little lacking in fish variety-an unnamed white fish and octopus in a tomato and olive-based sauce. Favourable comments were made about the other dishes, although the pasta dish was said to have been rather tasteless. The service was okay but not great. A girl took our orders (and was fine) but a chap dealt with our drinks and managed to pour some of the (white) wine over my dad and cut his hand while opening our bottle of water. He and the girl seemed to be in on some sort of joke, too, as they were smirking at each other. They were not exactly all that professional. I can't comment on the accommodation but a double room and breakfast for £75 isn't bad at all - the rooms looked good in the pictures.
