Loon Fung is well up the scale when it comes to sorting out the Chinese restaurants in Edinburgh. As Cantonese come in the city few are in the same bracket as Loon Fung. It is very much a haunt of politicians and, even more significantly, the Chinese themselves, always a source of confidence to those treading warily outside their own national cuisine. The spare ribs are spoken of in hushed tones, judged by some to be the best obtainable in the country. Perhaps too many people tend to judge a Chinese by its dim sum and there is no doubt they have become widely popular. Here again Loon Fung scores highly.Chinese

I visited the Loon Fung for the first time, having already sampled their takeaways on previous occasions. The service was very good, and the staff were friendly and helpful without being intrusive. There is a good selection of starters and main courses. The food was cooked to perfection and very tasty - no MSG flavour enhancers used here - I know because they trigger an asthma attack. I was amazed at the size of the portions, almost double the size of anything I've ever experienced. Nothing went to waste though, as the uneaten food was packed up and taken home. I will definitely recommend Loon Fung for good food, reasonable prices and excellent service.

The food was quite good with fresh ingredients - tender chicken and fresh noodles. However, except for the lychee, the sweet menu is a bunch of industrious desserts. The service was a bit disappointing and it maybe due to the fact that we did not make any reservations. We had to ask and wait for our plates while our meals had already arrived. Do not worry if you pay by card, they will remind you to add a tip.
