A stone's throw from Shad Thames, the picturesque views of Tower Bridge in the same frame as Lovage Indian Restaurant, exudes the kind of upmarket ambience that is unparalleled in the Square Mile. Even leaving aside the warm welcome by a traditionally dressed doorman, the airy bar provides a snug and comforting environment with plenty of intimate areas to sip on a cocktail. It's the upstairs dining room, with its plush surroundings, that proves to be the real draw while the cooking is inspired by some tried and tested choices, along with more contemporary ones.
Flavoursome starters include the succulent lamb gilouti kebabs, mussels in garlic and brandy or cod and shrimp cakes. Mains are a fine blend of familiar favourites and modern dishes, such as scallops in a coconut and cashew nut sauce, duck with apricots or an aromatic lamb shank.
Add to the cooking, friendly service and an elevated environment and you have the recipe for a wonderful restaurant.

Excellent value for money, food and customer service. I visited Lovage for the first time on Saturday night and it was brilliant. I live in the area and didn't realise it was there. But I happened to go across and was tempted to go in after viewing the outside menu and the lovely man dressed in stunning Indian clothing standing outside. From the minute we walked in, we were treated like VIP's and our coats were taken. We were shown to the lounge area and our drinks order was immediately taken. It was busy but the lounge area is very comfortable. We almost forgot we were there for dinner and not just drinks. I cannot fault the staff - they are absolute professionals and seem to really take pride in their jobs. As for the food - Wow! Absolutely delicious and stunningly presented! The best thing of all was the bill. For such a stunning contemporary Indian restaurant, great service and delicious food - we were expecting it to be rather pricey but at just over £50 including drinks for two of us we were both very impressed. To top it, we were walked to the door and sent on our way with a cheery smile and wave.
