Ma Cuisine Description

From Twickenham to Kew is not far, but clearly far enough to encourage John McClement to set up a second Ma Cuisine in the Old Post Office, and there are rumours of more. The theme is bistro and no money has been wasted on elements that do not impinge on the food. Which is excellent, with typical Gallic flair and large portions.

The emphasis is on light meals from 9 to 6, with a fuller menu for lunch and dinner. This seems to work well and the larger meals have real substance involving such old favourites as home-made black pudding en croute with Dijon mustard, blanquette of rabbit served with petits pois, and that international staple, lemon tart.

Wine starts at an affordable £9.95, with a typical full meal costing around £27.

This was the second time we ate at Ma Cuisine. We were not impressed on our first visit and this time it was very disappointing. We decided to go for desserts only. I ordered Sauternes and was offered two overpriced glasses of Muscadet. We then ordered two pear tarte tatin and both were overcooked and finished about half before we decided that was enough. The service left a lot to be desired and we will not return.

Ma Cuisine at Kew is a local restaurant for us. The food is good but the restaurant falls short of reasonable expectations on two counts. The wines are overpriced and of poor quality. The Citadelle was drinkable but the Merlot was rubbish. We felt that it is an insult to be offered these poor quality wines at a restaurant that purports to produce fine French food. Also the prices overall are much too high.
