Maggie's Description

Maggie's is a reversal of the usual opening pattern for such establishments, kicking off at 5 am, but closing smartly after lunch, at 3 pm. Early customers are the fishermen, off in pursuit of the café's major commodity, although a nifty line in crab sandwiches is always popular. The restaurant seats 50, is conveniently located above the fish market and is not unknown for providing early morning sustenance to those returning from lively nights out, or sad souls suffering from sleeplessness.

Your Reviews of Maggie's

Kat (28 October 2009)

Maggie's is simply the best for fish and chips in Hastings, and maybe anywhere. The first time we managed to get in on the 'off chance' as we'd noticed it tended to be full by midday! We were gobsmacked by the sheer volume of fish on our plate! We'd ordered standard sized fish and chips, one haddock and one cod. The batter was both light and crisp. There were fewer chips than you might be used to elsewhere but they were just enough and perfectly cooked. It all went down lovely with a strong cup of tea. It’s an unpretentious, friendly and fabulous place to eat. Be warned, even calling to book ahead a whole four weeks might prove impossible.

Terry and Cynth (11 August 2009)

As I said I would, took two friends there on Tuesday, Harry went full into large cod and chips, what a hero, the rest of us stayed with standard. Same superb quality and service, but it is better to book as I did, because on arrival, a notice on the steps stated that the day was fully booked. It was another full filled day at Maggie’s.
