Malt Shovel at Barston, The Description

A very popular venue for its enormous number of supporters, this country pub, with a difference, has a welcoming bar with an easy atmosphere for eating and drinking, there are log fires in winter, just right for long Sunday lunches. A pretty garden in summer is perfect for al fresco eating at lunchtimes.

There is a separate AA Rosette award winning restaurant in a stylishly converted barn, specialising in fresh local produce with daily seafood specials. Extremely - and justifiably - busy at time, do make sure that you book or go on a day when it is quieter. Given that you will be able to sit back and enjoy the atmosphere which is noisily cheerful.

You will have no difficulty in defining dishes and their preparation and serving is clearly in good hands. All of this is rather surprising since the general approach could be described as slightly louche - but it works. An eclectic wine list provides well for most needs with house wine at £11.95.

This has got to be the best pub/restaurant in the West Midlands!

A menu to die for, from scallops to fillet steak, it's all great. You must try the fish and chips - the chunkiest, crunchiest mouth watering 'lump' of battered cod built high upon a tower of chunky chips with the best homemade mushy peas that you will ever taste.
