Malthouse
Church Lane, Ledbury, HR8 1DW
Ken Wilson and Jamila Belkoniene have been running The Malthouse in Ledbury since 2004. Approached along one of Ledbury's historic cobbled lanes, the restaurant is cosily tucked away off the beaten track in a converted barn. Choose between two different dining areas and enjoy a fine modern British or continental meal. Pre-dinner drinks can be taken in the welcoming upstairs lounge or in good weather in the quiet little walled courtyard. The Malthouse has steadily built up a reputation for providing excellent food in a relaxed, friendly and informal atmosphere; hardly surprising that it was recommended by the 2009 Good Food Guide. On a short but exciting à la carte, a passion fruit and citrus cured organic sea trout, smoked salmon, fennel salad, mixed shoots and citrus dressing could share the bill with potato gnocchi, rabbit, and crayfish with a spiced crayfish cream sauce.Ken Wilson and Jamila Belkoniene have been running The Malthouse in Ledbury since 2004. On a short but exciting à la carte, a passion fruit and citrus cured organic sea trout, smoked salmon, fennel salad, mixed shoots and citrus dressing could share the bill with potato gnocchi, rabbit, and crayfish with a spiced crayfish cream sauce. Main courses range from sautéed rib eye of beef to roasted chump of lamb in a honey lavender marinade with fondant potato, beans, spinach, carrot purée and herb sauce.
A well constructed wine list complements the food well.

REVIEWS OF Malthouse
Martyn Treasure (22 February 2008)
My wife and I had a superb meal here last week. Our waitress, Jamila, was very friendly and provided excellent service throughout. We chose from the fixed price menu. I had pouison with spinach and mushroom pancake roll, my wife had sea bass- both were excellent with good portion sizes that were just right. The puddings too were delicious. There were only two on the fixed price menu and we had one of each. The flavours of the cheesecake and the sorbet with fruits were superb. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a good meal in simple surroundings.

My wife and I were looking for a restaurant in Ledbury, and Michelin's comments on the Malthouse intrigued us. It turned out to be the best meal we have had in many years, despite our frequent visits to the best in London, Paris, Geneva and elsewhere. We received a warm reception and were delighted with the simple charm of the place. Our hostess was very helpful with our choices and prompt with their delivery. The asparagus and egg salad starter was tactile and fragrant, while the bass and potato salad combined a subtle fish flavour with a light garlic bite from the potato. The main course, served in particularly warm plates, was perfect. My wife had steak and I had duck breast, and both were moist, flavourful and well surrounded with fresh vegetables. My wife's ice cream and sorbet heaped with seasonal berries was excellent. I can't remember eating a better strawberry shortcake anywhere in the world. The strawberry sauce was light and fragrant and the biscuit as crisp as an apple. The wine list was short but diverse, and combined good value, with some excellent cuvees. My half bottle of Fronsac was exactly as it should have been. We will be dropping some of our trips to London and Paris to continue the unusual experience that we had here!
