Mandalay Description
Mandalay is a relatively new concept for the North East, described as Pan Asian, Burmese and Chinese. The reality is in fact a blend of them all with an overlying theme of Feng Shui. In case we're getting into deep water here Feng Shui abhors the use of artificial additives and flavourings in the preparation of food, and so has a no added MSG policy. You may not immediately notice the difference but just think about the improved quality of the food and its effect on you.
Amongst the starters the Hokkien-style fresh spring rolls and, on special occasions the gold bags filled with pork and served with a dip, are notable. The spicy Thai green chicken and potato curry vies with the swordfish steak served in a saffron lime butter sauce, and all dishes are prepared with the sort of care that ensures a flavoursome meal.
Their claim to setting new standards in Oriental cuisine is well justified, though along with it goes above average prices to match the food.

Being vegetarian, I was a bit sceptical at what was going to be on offer but was persuaded to go. I'm glad I did, the service was excellent, the food delicious and extremely filling. Two of us managed to have starters, three main dishes, drinks and dessert for £45 which is very reasonable considering how filling it is!

We had been told to go to the Mandalay for ages by some mates and finally got there on Saturday last week. The wait was worth it, everything from the decor to the food and the staff was spot on. While a wee bit on the high price side you really don't care about the cost as the food is top class. We will not be waiting to long to make a return visit.
