This classic Chinese restaurant on the ever-popular Whiteladies Road is not exceptional in its dishes or décor, but does offer reliably good food at reasonable prices. Of the choice of starters the crispy aromatic Peking duck, or the Mandarin mixed hors d'oeurves, are the best options. Elsewhere on the menu more unusual dishes include eight-treasure bean curd hot pot and steamed sea bass with ginger and spring onion. There is also a range of special set dinners priced from £13 per person offering a selection of dishes from across the menu. Mandarin runs a popular takeaway service. Reviewed by Linda Buttle
