Mangal Ocakbasi is a basic looking Turkish restaurant that likes to keep things easy. There's no menu, you just choose with your eyes from the selection on display made up of slow cooked stews and various cooked to order kebabs. Huge slabs of Turkish flat bread guaranteed to keep hunger at bay accompany main course dishes, whilst a selection of aubergine and cucumber based dips add interest. They also offer a takeaway service but this is no fast food joint, everything is carefully prepared to ensure the best quality, yet dining in is cheap enough and you can bring your own booze. The food is excellent but tarnished by the poor and lacklustre service, which I think, is the result of the good reviews and word of mouth recommendations in the last few years. I recently got into a misunderstanding about how many dishes I'd ordered, leading to an argument with the waiter, where a simple apology from him would have sufficed. When the order arrived, it was thrown onto the table with disdain. It was all the more disappointing as I was a regular.
