Mango Tree Description
Seldom has a new Thai restaurant made such as impact on London diners as The Mango Tree, which is almost universally praised for the quality of its food, the helpful and charming service, and the sensible (though not cheap) pricing of its menu. Just round the corner from Buckingham Palace in a smart part of town, this exemplifies how much more sophisticated Thai dining has become: whilst you will still find your old favourites, like pad thai, with a large king prawn on top, to green chicken curry or beef with ginger and oyster sauce, there are more unusual choices as well. They also have a private dining area, or you can even hire the whole restaurant for a sumptuous party.

My daughter and I ate at the restaurant after the theatre on Friday 6th July. I can say without hesitation it was the worst Thai meal I have ever eaten. The soup was almost cold, the seared tuna was okay but smothered in a sauce which had more strength than taste. Both main courses were virtually inedible and went almost wholly un-eaten. The duck was served in a half pineapple that was so dried up it must have been used on more than one occasion or been stood for a long, long time. The other main course was supposed to be a chicken noodle dish, there were three small pieces of chicken in it and the rest was a mass of barely warm noodles which tasted of little other than mass produced indistinct Thai seasoning. I had spent a lot of time looking for the perfect restaurant for my daughter's treat - I might as well not have bothered.

This is a great restaurant. The Champagne cocktails on offer are fabulous. Food and service were wonderful. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful.
