Market Bar and Bistro

Market Place, Somerton, TA11 7NB

Situated in Somerton, the ancient capital of Wessex, the Market Bar and Bistro, is housed in a building that dates from the 16th century and has recently been refurbished. The bar area has a very relaxed, modern atmosphere with leather sofas and coffee tables where Tapas is served. The bistro features full linen and comfortable chairs and the à la carte menu is served both at lunch time as well as the evenings. Crowd your table with a little pie stuffed with mushrooms and smoked bacon in a garlicky cream sauce and caramelised red onion tartlet topped with grilled goat's cheese for a start. The bargains consist of crowd pleasers such as slow roast blade of lamb coated with honey and wholegrain mustard served with mashed potato and fresh vegetables and crispy belly pork with smoky chilly sauce with rice and stir fried vegetables.

Among bistro specials you could try the wild rabbit dish - no taste quite like it.

It has very pleasant, welcoming atmosphere and comfortable bar with good selection of drinks. Appetising menu and very tasty food promptly served - the roast belly of pork is a must! I would certainly recommend this restaurant for a pleasant evening meal.
