Matisse Restaurant

This delightfully different hotel sees itself as a "Town house in the Country" is situated in the picturesque hamlet of South Hams in a beautiful part of Devon but only a short distance away from the main roads, picturesque estuaries, Dartmoor and charming countryside. Their restaurant is a bit unusual, named after the painter Matisse, producing a very colourful effect as his works are featured on the walls.

The food is distinctive also with starters running from pan fried foie gras with a small glass of dessert wine, pannacotta of parmesan, tower of local hand picked crab to Mediterranean vegetable terrine. Running into principle dishes like: roasted monkfish with a shellfish boulangère; fillet of local beef with wild mushrooms and truffled potatoes; steamed halibut with vanillared vegetables; breast of local Crediton free range duck with a spinach ravioli.

Concluding with desserts of hot raspberry soufflé with homemade raspberry sorbet on a bed of fresh raspberries; orange clafoutis tartlet with an iced terrine. They do not have a house wine as such; instead there is a large selection from £14.95 to £59 with the emphasis on top class wines from the New World.
