Mien Tay - Battersea

180 Lavender Hill, Battersea, London, SW11 5TQ

Named after the fishing region in South Vietnam, where the family that owns the restaurant are from, and situated at two locations across London, Mien Tay is a destination for Vietnamese cuisine in London. It's possible that the unadorned entrance and the unfussy décor misleads you to underestimate the merits of the restaurant, but this modest appearance is what creates a pleasant and welcoming ambiance, making it a relaxed place to enjoy a hearty meal with family and friends. The kitchen buzzes with activity as fresh and excellent seafood dishes such as squid with chili, salt and pepper, steamed scallops with crispy garlic and char grilled prawn wrapped around sugarcane are brought to the table.

For those who like to keep it light, fragrant phos, lotus root salad with tofu and fresh green papaya salad with prawns are some of the delectable options to hand.

Amongst desserts fried banana and rainbow drink mung beans, gelatinous seaweed and coconut milk are worth trying.

REVIEWS OF Mien Tay - Battersea

Pandahead (5 January 2010)

Newly arrived in late 2009 and already one of my favourite restaurants. All food nicely presented with fresh ingredients and reasonably priced too. You can take advantage of their BYO at no charge - check with restaurant directly as they may change this at any time. We travel from neighboring Balham as Mien Tay is so much better than any Vietnamese-Oriental restaurants that we have in Balham. Paddyfield is okay but newly opened Bun is not so good. We were last at Mien Tay on Saturday Jan 2010 at 6.30pm and apart from one other couple, my partner and I were the only customers but by 7.00pm the restaurant was totally full. The décor is not great but the absolutely fantastic food and friendly staff totally make up for this. Please bring Mien Tay to Balham and we'll definitely be bringing our custom to you more often!
