Mobius Bar & Restaurant

Mobius is a very smart restaurant in Leicester, an acknowledged multi-racially inhabited city with a menu to match. An eclectic approach to the cuisine makes for exciting surprises, even if it does not produce anything particularly new in the actual dishes.

Amongst the starters expect to find a Thai platter with spicy fishcake, chicken satay, king prawn spring roll and vegetable, pan-fried calf's liver in butter, lemon zest, sage and brandy, or a tempura soft-shell crab with crispy salad, topped with a special Thai sauce.

Main courses extend the theme still further with a fillet au poivre, with cream, brandy and pink peppercorn sauce with sautéed potatoes, penne primavera, short cut pasta tubes with char-grilled vegetables in a tomato and cream sauce, a Thai green curry served with properly steamed jasmine rice, or three spiced large King tiger prawns with stir-fried egg noodles, cucumber relish and drizzled with creamy fiery coconut sauce.

Desserts stray hardly at all from the British culture with warm apple and cider crumble served with vanilla custard or ice cream, though my vote would go to the coconut coated fried banana with ice cream, dressed with a special Thai green syrup.

Presentation throughout is of a high order. A wine list that combines old and new world offerings is comfortably priced, and rarely strays above the £20 mark.
