Mon Plaisir
19-21 Monmouth Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9DD
Take a stroll down Monmouth Street and you'll discover a little piece of England that will remain forever France. Mon Plaisir , London's oldest French Restaurant, has been a purveyor of fine French cuisine for over half a century. The entente cordial hits you as you enter, the French atmosphere is as thick as the waiters French accents. You'll find yourself surrounded by wonderfully original French artefacts, you could even find yourself leaning against the pewter topped bar which once graced the lounge of a Lyonnais brothel. The four rooms have completely different feels, as you enteryou will find yourself in the original dining room, which hasn't changed in the restaurant's long history.Take a stroll down Monmouth Street and you'll discover a little piece of England that will remain forever France. Since then Monsieur Lhermitte, the proprietor, has added three more uniquely individual areas. With the help of Biba designers Whitmore Thomas, he has managed to capture the feeling of French decadence in the Forties.
Fish dishes include a wonderful baked fillet of red snapper with grilled polenta while other choices include duck breast or roast rabbit with Provencal vegetable and marjoram jus. Its location makes it a popular choice with theatregoers who love its good value pre-theatre menu.

REVIEWS OF Mon Plaisir
Dr N Buck (8 February 2005)
My husband and I enjoyed the pre-theatre dinner at Mon Plaisir and could not have been more pleased. When we made the reservation we were asked if we would be attending a show and what time we needed to leave the restaurant. Upon arrive we were asked if we still needed to leave at the time we had stated. Our three course meal was perfectly timed so that we enjoyed a casual meal and left exactly on time. The staff was friendly and the meal was very good. It was also quite a bargain. We have lived in England for three years now and how never paid for a meal out without feeling it was over-priced. Not only was this meal not over priced, it was a great deal. I highly recommend Mon Plaisir for a wonderful pre-theatre dinner.
Jon (14 July 2004)
I have dined at Mon Plaisir half a dozen times and the food has always been at least "good", usually "excellent". Good ambience, friendly service, not too expensive.
